You can order a replacement card online. You will be required to register on our website. Once registered, you will then be able to order a replacement card for a nominal charge.
You can check your current TIPS status online. You will be required to register on our website. Once registered, you will then be able to search our certification records by entering your last name and the last four digits of your social security number. This information is secure and is used only to verify your certification information.
Our trainers conduct their training independently so the cost of classroom training varies by trainer and location. Sessions are typically four to five hours in length.

If your TIPS card has expired, you must enroll in a upcoming class or online course, complete and pass the exam to receive a new certification card.

To become a certified TIPS Trainer you must successfully complete a Train-the-Trainer workshop. You can browse upcoming workshops on our website or contact an Account Manager at 800-438-8477.
All trainers have access to a Training Portal to check certifications and print session documents. To access your Training Portal:
  1. Go to the TIPS homepage.
  2. Click Login in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Enter your email address and password, and then click Sign In.
Congratulations on becoming a TIPS trainer. We know you may be a bit anxious about training your first TIPS session, but you have nothing to worry about. Your workshop has covered the basics; just remember to rely on your participants to share their ideas and experiences. After all, THEY are the experts. Be sure to have:
  • TIPS program DVD or flash drive
  • Access to a TV, DVD player or other device
  • Enough manuals, pens (black or blue only), and exams
  • Session Register form.
We advise you to pre-register your session and to make copies of all materials for your files. Send all original forms to HCI. We do not accept copies.

To pre-register a TIPS training session:
  1. Log in to your Training Portal.
  2. Click the menu header Manage Participant Training to expand the menu.
  3. Select Register a Classroom Session.
  4. Supply the appropriate information and click the Click to Save button.
  5. If you are a referral trainer and would like to invite the public to attend your session, select "Click here to make this a public session."
Note the assigned Session ID# because you will have to enter it on your Session Register form.
To print participant exams:
  1. Log in to your Training Portal.
  2. Click the menu header Trainer Libraries to expand the menu.
  3. Select Participant Exams.
  4. Choose and print the appropriate exam.
To print a jurisdiction's laws and regulations:
  1. Log in to your Training Portal.
  2. Click the menu header Other Information to expand the menu.
  3. Select Laws & Regulations Database.
  4. Select the desired jurisdiction from the left.
  5. Near the top of the page, click Select a Report, and then Jurisdiction Laws & Regs Summary.
  6. In the popup window, choose a report format (PDF, Excel, Word, etc.) and then click the Print button.
To print the Session Sign-in Sheet:
  1. Log in to your Training Portal.
  2. Click the menu header Trainer Libraries to expand the menu.
  3. Select Regulatory Forms and Training Resources.
  4. Print the Session Sign-in Sheet and any other useful training materials.
Session Register forms are sent to you in almost every package we send, particularly with manuals or other course materials. If you need more Session Register forms, contact your Account Manager at 800-438-8477.

After you train a session be sure to make copies of all session documents and send the originals to:

Trainers must pass a recertification exam every year. To take the exam online:
  1. Log in to your Training Portal.
  2. Click the menu header Trainers to expand the menu.
  3. Select Take an Online Recertification Exam.
  4. Submit payment and take the exam.

The cost is $40 per person.
No. eTIPS is intended as a single user course, so multiple people cannot take eTIPS at the same time on the same computer.
Yes. It is possible for different people to use the same computer to take eTIPS at different times. Each participant should completely log out of the system before the next participant attempts to register or log in on that computer.
Participants have 30 days from the time they register to complete the course. Within the 30-day window, participants can log out and log back in to return to where they left off. The only exception is the final certification exam at the end of the course. We recommend that participants finish the exam in one sitting. After 30 days the course will be reset and all progress to that point will be lost.
After you exit the course, you may return with the following instructions:
  1. Go to the TIPS homepage.
  2. Click the Return to Online Course button in the upper right corner.
  3. Enter your username (email address or full name) and password.
  4. Click the Login button.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to launch the course.
First, ensure that the login information you entered is correct. Passwords are NOT case sensitive, but sometimes the capital letter O and zero (0) appear similar. Your login username is the email address used when you registered for the course. If your browser prepopulated any login information, manually enter the information again. Login information is often incorrectly prepopulated by your browser. If you continue to receive this error, call 800-438-8477, ext. 600 for assistance. Contact Technical Support
To view your certification records:
  1. Log in on the Certifications page where you can expand the items listed to see details regarding your certification.
  2. Or, log in to your TIPS Training Portal. Then select the Certifications icon to view your certification records.
When you complete the course, a temporary certificate of completion is generated for you to view or print. To view or print your certificate of completion later:
  1. Click here to log in using your username (email address or full name) and password.
  2. Click the Login button.
  3. Select the Documents icon.
  4. Expand the Participant Documents section to display your completion certificate(s).
  5. Click the book icon to show the certificate in another browser window.
You are entitled to one free retake of the course and certification exam. We will create a new registration for you and email you with instructions for accessing the course.
Simply log out, or close your internet browser windows. Your course progress should be automatically saved. To return to the course:

  1. Click here to log in using your username (email address or full name) and password.
  2. Click the Login button.
  3. Click the name of the course to expand the section if it is not already expanded.
  4. Then, click the Take Class button.
This issue sometimes occurs if you lose internet connectivity while in the course. This issue usually resolves itself in about 20 minutes, so if this happens, log out and then relaunch the course after an appropriate amount of time has passed. eTIPS courses are designed to continually store your progress. However, in rare cases, you might lose access and the course will reset. If this happens, call 800-438-8477, ext. 600 and we can usually restore your session progress. Be sure to recall the section of the course you were in and the last screen you viewed so that we can verify your progress. Contact Technical Support
In some cases a slow or lagging network connection can cause the cursor to disappear. The cursor will usually return within a minute or two. If it does not, try refreshing your browser window. If that doesn't work, close your browser window and then follow the emailed instructions on how to return to your course. If you still experience issues, call 800-438-8477, ext. 600 for assistance. This happens when a user has multiple logins for our website. Log out, verify the username and password provided in the most recent email you received from us, and then try logging in again. Depending on the user and the course jurisdiction, the course can take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours to complete. Users can log out and return to the course at any time before starting the exam. Upon returning, the course will resume from the point at which the user logged out. We recommend that participants finish the exam in one sitting.
